Managing behavioral difficulties is consistently identified as the number one problem that teachers face. This certificate directly addresses this critical need in the field and facilitates advancement by existing school employees.
Schools often move existing employees into behavior support roles that require specialized training. This certificate's coursework develops the skills needed to provide effective behavior support services in school settings. It requires 9 units taken through 3 sequentially connected courses. We started providing training in 2001. To date, there are still few other resources focused specifically on the school behavioral specialist. Our coursework is fully online. Since we began, we have drawn graduate students from Arizona, more than 20 other US states, Bermuda, several provinces in Canada and Hong Kong.
