Program Details

Develop the skills and knowledge necessary to diagnose and manage Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in your role as a practicing clinician. Open new career opportunities to work as a nurse practitioner in developmental, pediatric and specialty clinics.

The prevalence of ASD is growing rapidly – affecting one out of every 59 children in the US overall and one out of 71 children in Arizona. Lower diagnosis prevalence in Arizona may be related to lower access to evaluations. Although ASD can be diagnosed as early as two years of age, the median age of diagnosis in Arizona is four years and eight months. By developing your capacity to diagnose and manage the disorder, you will have the ability to make a positive impact in your community by increasing access to evaluation.

In this program, you will be required to pursue one graduate level course and associated clinical practicum hours each semester.

Eligibility: Successful applicants will have unrestricted RN licensure within the U.S. and current APRN certification (PNP, FNP or PMHNP). An Advanced Practice Nursing degree (APRN) is required. Cumulative GPA of 3.5 or above. Applicants must have at least two years of current and continuous full-time work as an APRN in a specialized setting (i.e. developmental pediatric clinics, behavioral health clinics), as well as advanced practice national certification in a specialty area.

*Residents of some U.S. Territories may not be eligible. Please see our Eligibility & State Authorization page for more information.
