Develop new skills and competencies that will prepare you to improve the efficiency, equity, quality and value of healthcare.

This Post-Graduate Certificate in Healthcare Informatics prepares you to become a future leader with advanced competencies essential to informatics within healthcare organizations. Graduates of the program will also be prepared to meet the growing demand for informatics expertise.

Through this program, you will be qualified to solve healthcare quality and safety challenges and achieve optimal organizational outcomes through the creative application of informatics. The program meets the diverse needs of learners seeking advanced preparation to effectively perform in their current role or elevate their career in new roles. 

The program can be completed in 9-15 months part-time. This certificate is designed for individuals with a master’s degree or higher and a healthcare background in nursing, medicine, public health, dentistry, nutrition sciences, pharmacy, etc. However, previous experience in healthcare informatics is not required.

If you wish to be eligible to sit for the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Informatics Nursing Certification exam, you will need to complete three credits of practicum (NURS 694) as part of the program. 

If you choose to enroll in three units of NURS 694 for this certificate you will complete a minimum of 225 contact hours of internship under the supervision of an Informatics faculty member.

Courses

The certificate consists of three courses. Students are required to complete NURS 646: Healthcare Informatics Theory and Practice and may select two of the following courses:

NURS 634: Data Management in Health Care Systems
NURS 647: Human Factors in Health Information Technology
NURS 648: Healthcare Informatics: Theory and Research
NURS 736: Technology for Expanding Healthcare Capacity
