Organic Chemistry Immersion Labs
Gain valuable hands-on experience and complete your chemistry requirements faster in this hybrid course.
Hybrid Learning Experience
Hybrid courses offer in-person labs that enable you to complete full-semester courses in only 3.5 weeks during summer session. Taught in a hybrid modality, these courses consist of fully online modules that students complete before attending in-person labs which are conducted on the University of Arizona main campus in Tucson, AZ.
Beginning Summer 2022, the CHEM243A & B Organic Chemistry Immersion Labs are required to complete the Biology BS.

Why Are Labs Held In-Person?
Organic chemistry labs must be completed in person because they involve chemical experiments with sensitive materials that cannot be completed at home. The two in-person laboratory courses are taught over a seven-day summer period in Tucson, AZ where you will gain vital laboratory skills and hands-on experience.
When Are In-Person Labs Held?
Each hybrid course is 3.5 weeks long, including 3.5 days of on-campus laboratory immersion. Your online coursework will begin the week before your in-person labs and continue once your in-person experience is complete.
CHEM 243A: Organic Chemistry Laboratory I & CHEM 243B: Organic Chemistry Laboratory II
Courses begin online May 13 - June 1, 2024.
CHEM243A in-person lab: Full days on May 20, 21, 22 & one-half day on May 23.
CHEM243B in-person lab: Half day on May 23, full days May 24, 25 & 26.
