Program Details

The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) certificate is a four-semester, part-time opportunity for working registered nurses. Campus experiences complement online course content for learning and demonstrating health assessment skills. Graduates will receive a broad foundation of educational preparation in advanced psychiatric and mental health nursing theories, research and practice across the life span. Health assessment, primary prevention, health care maintenance, clinical decision-making, and illness management are emphasized in the classroom and clinical practica. Upon completion of the program, graduates will be eligible to take a PMHNP national board certifying examination.

The PMHNP certificate is not offered every year. Interested applicants should contact the College of Nursing Office of Student Affairs to verify that the certificate will be offered at the time of application. To qualify for entry into the PMHNP Graduate Certificate program, students must have a Master of Science degree in nursing. The program requires a minimum of 25 credits of clinical course study and 765 clinical practica hours.

*Residents of some U.S. Territories may not be eligible. Please see our Eligibility & State Authorization page for more information.
