Program Details

The Rural Telehealth Certificate Program (RTCP-DNP) is intended for doctorate of nursing practice (DNP) students who wish to learn about the delivery of healthcare using telehealth technology.

The term “telehealth” covers a range of methods including: videoconferencing in real-time (synchronous), store and forward (asynchronous), patient monitoring, mHealth and provider education. The rural health care delivery system is a prominent environment for telehealth use. You will have the opportunity to analyze and evaluate different elements of delivery systems related to rural clients, including: provider and organizational outcomes, informatics and leadership in the design, implementation and evaluation of rural healthcare systems.

Through this program, you will develop an advanced understanding of the necessary components of a sustainable telehealth program that provides patient-centered delivery. Identifying one key area of telehealth technology you wish to explore, you will evaluate the fit among the environment, client, telehealth technology and desired outcomes for capacity building and sustainability.

Completion of this certificate will demonstrate to future employers your knowledge of telehealth and its application in your area of specialty. Clinical residencies are required, but these can be either face-to-face or conducted by remote telehealth.

Eligibility: The current Plan of Study for the RTCP is designed for students enrolled in the College of Nursing Doctorate of Nursing Program. Applicants will be held to the same requirements as all students who are participating in clinical residency hours.

*Residents of some U.S. Territories may not be eligible. Please see our Eligibility & State Authorization page for more information.
