Rhetoric, Composition, and Teaching of English
Master of Arts
Quick Facts
Two graduate tracks are offered in Rhetoric, Composition and the Teaching of English (RCTE): an M.A. pathway and a Ph.D. pathway. The master's plan is best if you intend to teach in public schools and community colleges. It typically runs two years, although if you are working as a full-time teacher, it may take longer. You will gain hands-on experience through teaching in the national award-winning Foundations Writing Program, which provides the chance to teach first-year and upper-division courses; participation in specialized research, curriculum and assessment projects; small-group mentoring and support; and access to research assistantships across the university.
*Residents of some U.S. Territories may not be eligible. Please see our Eligibility & State Authorization page for more information.
